Understanding Prameha: The Ayurvedic Science View of Diabetes
In Ayurvedic science, diabetes is understood within a broader framework called Prameha, a group of metabolic and urinary disorders. Prameha develops when digestion and metabolism slow down, and the body begins accumulating excess sugar, fat, and fluids. Contributing factors include:
- Eating heavy, oily, or high-sugar foods regularly

A specific type of Prameha called Madhumeha is closest to what modern medicine calls diabetes mellitus. In Ayurvedic science, managing Prameha is not just about controlling blood sugar. The Pilot: Five Patients, Three Months
This observational pilot followed five patients across LYBL clinics in India over 90 days. All participants:
- Had confirmed Type 2 diabetes mellitus
- Were already taking oral antihyperglycemic medications
